Gringos Van al Sur
When we got to South America we were determined to not be taken for Gringos. After all of ten days we realised that we have been sunburnt, mugged and now had the shits! There is no doubt that we are gringos of the greenest kind. As is reinforced by the quizzical looks we get each day as we try to communicate in our perfect spanish. Nobody ever told us it would be easy.

Hey Gringo… you want I send mucho, mucho toiletto paper…? Sounds fascinating and I’m really glad you are doing this rather than me! Don’t forget to name your “good cause” (perhaps a new fire station, although with the rain they seem to get, and the state of their roofs, they probably haven’t had a fire in years).
Very nice,
Siggi
hey Ben / Erika,
Really enjoyed reading your adventures so far and sounds fantastic. Loved the attempted parrot escape!
Take it easy and have a wicked time.
Ben

guys, your blog is fantastic!
gorgeous photos and super interesting stuff to read! especially for me…easily getting into the anthopological voyerism..I love stuff like the gender bended domestic soap you’re living in!
I hope your stay goes better and better – The spanish with it
ps: Some years ago, I was also in a tiny beautiful village called Trujllo – but in Estremadura, Spain! it is actually the hometown of the cruel Pizzaro! This might explain some of the closeness towards gringos…
many kisses from Rome,sabri
Hey Ben and Erika,
Brilliant to hear from you – sorry to hear you are learning the hard way but hey better stories to tell when you get back to Ole’ Blighty!
Things are good this end. London Fields Lido finally opened and is brilliant so you’ll have that to look forward to when you get back, a small pleasure but a pleasure none the less.
Really looking forward to seeing some photos.
Ruthy sends her love,
J

The people you are staying with sound mental, make sure they dont discover this they may not like your take on their emotional traumas…!

Ma quanto vi state divertendo?!
Il blog è fichissimo e seguirò i vostri spostamenti.
A presto.

Hola Gringos,
it’s time for a May posting! What’s happening in your own soap opera? Yes we want to see how long Ben’s hair’s got since you left, and how long it can get?!
And forget about Spanish, how’s your dancing going? Any parties yet? Any music discoveries? We want some mp3’s on this blog!
What else – exotic foods? Surely you have something to tell us about that Ben! Recipes please.
The pictures are superb. By now, you guys probably know South America better than me. Hope everything continues going well. Don´t hesitate in taking a ride to Cali.
Abrazos,
Lukas
Wonderful – I couldnt breathe waiting for more my darling pair
hi guys
finally I had a bit of peace to check your blog for the updates of May…it seems it was a fantastic month! the pixes you sent are incredible, as the stories. The best are the one with a very red Ben, and the other with a very wet Erika!!
You made me think of a story I read of two guys (2 brothers) that went for a long holidays in Mexico and started to take pictures. They found out that their pictures were so nice that all the tourists wanted to buy them! End of the story: the two guys set up a small company and if you now go to Mexico you gonna find their pictures as the most distributed postcards in any souvenirs shop…. A nice way to make money!
About me: I am fine, back in Holland since a month and trying to interview Indonesian women… Last great experience for Till and I has been a trip to Heilegendamm/Germany for the anti-G8 (did you hear about that from down there?). It was Till’s idea to celebreate the fact that he’s turning 30 (together with quitting the smoke
It was a great experience, we had a lot of fun!
I send you many kisses,
sabri

Hi Ben and Erika, see you soon, just a test to see if you’re reading your own blog! What happened to Aug., Sept., and Oct.?
Are you guys still alive? How are you? You’ve been on my mind. Hope to hear from you soon. I’ll be in Cuba at the end of Feb. Take care, Irina.
Abi is telling me you will be back in London in March, I hope to see you then. When are you back?
Great blog, Ben. You really captured our trip. Your pictures are fabulous. All the memories came back so clearly. I hope that you’ll be able to send us a selection of you best.
Thank you for your incredible generosity in organizing and orchestrating, leading our trip. You really were saints, you and Erika, with your poor ailing family. Thank you for not going into the details of my malady. I’m afraid it took antibiotics – 4 days after I arrived in Coroico for it to have almost gone. I lost so much weight that I have been able to eat huge amounts of food to this day.
We have some lovely pictures of Coroico and Sol Y Luna’s gardens – what an amazingly wonderful place for me – closest thing to paradise I’ve experienced in many a year. Thank you to you again. You are both such beautiful and fun human beings. I am proud to be your auntie – yes it was a priviledge to travel with you. Great to have been with your mum and shared her feats of hiking. I can’t tell you how wondeful to see her having so much fun in her life.
Much love to you both, Juliet
